Starting in this hobby? Know why most beginners drop their balls after 2weeks

Summary: (READ more to know WHY)

*Having 1 tarantula leads to quitting after 2weeks (For most)
*Its better to buy MANY cheap tarantulas instead of ONE tarantula but expensive
*as a beginner buy atleast 5 tarantula slings (it doesnt have to be assorted, it can be 4pcs Curlyhair and 1pc of your choice)

Most beginners think that if they buy a tarantula it must be an inch or in its Juvenile stage because they think it is more fun or more easy to take care, Well my opinion on that.... Yes it is true but that is also the reason why most beginners quit on this hobby after 2weeks! (Too fast)
wondering why??? well the answer is:
The fun thing in this hobby is to see how our tarantulas develop from a size of a grain to a size of your dinner plate! :D but since most beginners are buying juvenile tarantulas, they dont know that it takes 3weeks+ (Depends on the specie) before a progress can be achieved (Molting)

So i suggest to those beginners reading this and would like to stay for long on this hobby to buy at least 5 tarantula slings (Buy Curlyhairs -its cheap yet docile). Im not saying this to rip off your wallet or to destroy your piggy banks. Im saying this because you need to FEEL the excitement when  you are actually seeing your tarantula Progress! having 5 SLINGS will give you better chances to witness these "progress" (Do some stuffs that you can say wow! :) sorry but i will not tell you what things are those ;) Just keep your tarantulas and you will discover it yourself!

*I assume that as a hobbyist you respect your tarantula's behavior, and you know that there is no such thing as "Tamed tarantula"
always bear in mind that they run or fight if threatened!

- this tarantula is one of the cheapest yet docile specie available in our hobby, adding them on your collection is a must.

Brachypelma Smithi (Mexican Red knee)
- Behind its fascinating colors and docile attitude is a hair kicking habit :) i noticed that once it reached 4inches it tends to kick hair more often thats why i am no longer handling them onced they reach that size

Brachypelma Boehmei (Mexican Fireleg)
-This tarantula is one of the most popular tarantula for beginners because of its docile attitude and its colorful legs.

Grammostola Rosea / Porteri (Chilean rose tarantula)

- This tarantula is underated seing them in pictures can make you say that they are just normal tarantulas. But seing them personally will surely make you want this ;) They are docile and colorful but grows slow

Misting

Misting is a process on where we are spraying water on substrates to make it wet and to raise humidity on the enclosure of our tarantula

why we must mist/Spray water:

Basic setup for Brachypelma Species

 NOTE: This guide is for Brachypelma Juvies upto adults

Basic needs of your Brachy:

* Hide
* Water Dish
* Dry Substrate, Misting
* Decorations =)

Hide
Hides are essential on almost all Tarantulas, when they are stressed or threatened by us they only have two things in mind and that is Fight or Flee. You dont want your T to run outside its enclosure right? so better give them some hides to retreat when threatened.

Coconut shell, Broken pot or anything will do as long as they can hide inside

Water Dish
Brachypelma species loves to live in dry substrates which makes them rely on their food for water, so we need to provide them to water dish so they can drink if they need to and to avoid Bad molts which can cause death to our T. Water Dish also raises humidity in the enclosure of our tarantulas which aids them in molting.

Dry Substrate and Misting
Almost all Brachypelma Species are found in mexico which has a cool to hot climate so in setting up the enclosure for your brachys you need to keep their substrate dry.
although some Species needs to have a higher humidity try misting the other side of its substrate

Decorations
 Of course we like to make the enlosures of our tarantula to stand out and be as attractive/cool as possible so we need to decorate it, common decorations used are:
Bones,
Skulls,
Driftwoods
Stones
As of now we dont have this on our for sale Section, but you can find some on your backyard if none then just be creative!

 BTW i do not suggest this setup (too many branches Standing) Brachypelma species are terrestrials so they stay most of the time on ground not climbing like the arboreals

Haplopelma lividum (Cobalt Blue tarantula)

Known as the Cobalt Blue Tarantula, or more realistically a pet hole, this species tends to spend much of its time underground in self built burrows This 2.5 inch bodied tarantula with a leg span of 4-5 inches has to be one of the most beautiful, yet aggressive species of tarantula. While spiderlings, their overall color is a greyish blue. Adults on the other hand look dark brown-black at first glance. With the correct lighting you will see the legs have lovely blue sheen and the coxae is sliver. The males tend to be smaller and more brownish in color. Immature specimens are less blue and the abdomen is lighter in color.

Got no feeders? No problem! catch some!

Cant feed your tarantulas just because you ran out of  feeders?
Dont worry! all you need is some fruit and "Diskarte" :)

Try catching some Fruit Fly :)
well, may sees them gross but my tarantulas love them and these fruitflly are Gutloaded! :) I let them eat some fruits before i catch them :)

Here is a simple picture of my Fly Catcher v1.0.0

I used ripe mango as bait for these flies and they just cant resist its sweet scent then the plastic to catch them. I just folded it twice to give a circular opening for flies to get trapped. Then, I just tied the plastic to the stick and leave it for a while and wait for some Fruit fly (I tied the plastic so that the fly will get used with the plastic above him/her.
Then if some flies are in below the plastic slowly, lower your plastic and trap the fly :)
Then the last thing you should do is to Break its wings. One wing will do, it can no longer fly.
Then say Bon Appétit to your Tarantula =)

Why Tarantulas?

“WHY TARANTULAS?”

pros:

1. You don’t need to walk a tarantula in the morning and at night.

2. No need to give it a bath. NEVER.

3. Tarantulas don’t shit on the floor and to anywhere else but inside their enclosure. You won’t even notice that they shit.

4. They don’t make loud noises. They don’t smell.

5. It’s OK NOT to feed your tarantula up to a month. Just leave them with a source of water.

6. Tarantulas don’t have lice and ticks though they are prone to mites. But mites are just fine in controlled population.

7. You don’t have to give them vitamins nor take them to the Vet.

8. Tarantulas don’t take up much space in your house. Good pet suggestion for yuppies, busy individuals, and for those who have a small residence like me.

9. Very low maintenance. You don’t have to clean their tanks regularly.

10. Fulfilling.

cons: (just to be fair)

1. ADDICTING. Once started, you will then start dreaming of having all the species available around which will lead you to impulse buying.

2. Impulse buying will surely minimize the “life span” of your pay check.

3. Keeping tarantulas means keeping (breeding) different kinds of insects like crickets (males’ chirps are irritating when place inside the house); roaches (some roaches really stink like B. Lateralis); and worms (which will make your mother and sister scream) because it’s not practical spending a lot of money to buy feeders every week, or worst, everyday.

4. Tarantulas won’t love you back. They won’t cuddle you nor play fetch with you.

5. You can’t train your T’s to do tricks like “sit”, “play dead”, or “kill him”.

6. Won’t guard your house not even your room.

7. You will unconsciously be an instant ”basurero” when you have a lot of T’s in your captivity. You will collect gravy dishes; tissue rolls; deli cups; tree barks; branches; broken terra cotta; leaves; rocks; pebbles; even plastic spoons because there will always be a possible use for those junk. Yes, there will always be.

8. You wouldn’t allow anyone spray insecticides and air fresheners near your room. Good luck to mosquitoes and house roaches.

9. Your girlfriend, wife, or any special partner will be jealous to your inverts weeks after your first purchase.

10. People will avoid you because they’ll think you’re a weirdo.

Pelinobius muticus (King Baboon Tarantula) This slow growing species takes 8 years to reach maturity and is a member of Eumenophorinae in the family Theraphosidae known commonly as the King Baboon Tarantula. Avicularia Metallica (Metallic Pinktoe Tarantula)

Avicularia metallica (Pinktoe) is a relatively docile species of tarantulas though this guy has a rude behavior. HE SHOOTS POOPS!   This Metallic Pinktoe still have urticating hairs on their abdomen that will irritate anything that comes in contact. Just like the other Avic's, Avicularia metallica is an arboreal species which lives and hunts high up in trees and other vegetation.

Poecilotheria Metallica (Gooty Sapphire Ornamental Tarantula)  is the most beautiful specie (my opinion) because of its metallic blue color and some yellow on its leg. Plus, owning one of this is such an achievement =) because this dude is very rare that gives it a high price,

The Gooty Sapphire Ornamental Tarantula is native in india and can grow upto 6-7inch making it one of the best to display. It is so beautiful that others are tempted to touch it.. to let it crawl on them. But if you want one.. i am warning you to not to touch this one, because of its strong venom.

Tip: All tarantulas that belongs to the "Poecilotheria" genus (Pokies) Has very Strong Venom!
